Hungry for Value: Americans Are Searching for All-You-Can-Eat Dining

Dining out is still a pleasure—but getting your money’s worth matters. For diners watching their budgets, a satisfying meal, plenty of choices, and a price they can plan around make all-you-can-eat restaurants worth a closer look.

Recent search data suggests more people are exploring those options. Yelp reported a sharp increase in searches for nearby buffets, while our separate Google Trends analysis also found growing interest in all-you-can-eat restaurants.

The figures don’t tell us why each person searched. Still, the appeal is easy to understand: when you decide to spend money eating out, you want to leave feeling that the meal was worth it.

Yelp Reported a 252% Increase in Buffet Searches

Yelp’s 2026 food and drink trends reporting identified a 252% increase in searches for “all you can eat buffet near me.” The comparison covered September 2024 through August 2025 against the preceding 12 months. That finding concerns searches on Yelp, rather than Google searches or restaurant attendance.

That’s a substantial increase in people looking for nearby options. A search might represent a family planning dinner, travelers exploring an unfamiliar town, or someone checking out a restaurant they haven’t visited before.

It doesn’t necessarily lead to a restaurant visit, but it does show interest in discovering what’s available.

Google Trends Also Shows Growing Interest

Separately, All You Can Eat Dining analyzed a U.S. Google Trends export labeled “All-you-can-eat restaurant.”

Average relative search interest was approximately 8% higher during January–September 2026 than during the same months in 2025. The average monthly score rose from about 76.6 to 82.6, an increase of approximately 7.8%.

We excluded October because the month was still underway when the data was downloaded.

Google Trends scores measure popularity relative to all searches within the selected time and location. They run from 0 to 100 and do not represent actual search counts.

The Google and Yelp figures cover different search activity and comparison periods. They should be read separately, but both point toward increased interest in the dining options being measured.

Diners Want Their Dining Dollars to Count

Being budget conscious doesn’t mean giving up restaurant meals. It can mean choosing more carefully where—and when—to spend.

For someone comparing dining options, all-you-can-eat service offers a straightforward attraction: the opportunity to enjoy a satisfying meal with choices and additional helpings included in the meal price.

That doesn’t make every buffet a bargain for every guest. The value depends on the price, food quality, included items, and what you enjoy eating. Drinks, taxes, tips, service charges, and optional extras also belong in the comparison.

But a restaurant that serves your favorites, keeps its food fresh, and makes you feel welcome can offer something worth returning for.

A Full Plate Is Only Part of the Appeal

Getting your money’s worth is about more than how much food fits on a plate.

For a family, value might mean finding dishes everyone enjoys. For an adventurous diner, it could be trying small portions of unfamiliar foods. For friends gathering over hot pot or Korean barbecue, the shared experience may be as important as the meal.

There’s also something reassuring about knowing the meal price before ordering. Guests can consider their budget without calculating the cost of every additional dish.

The search data doesn’t prove these are the reasons behind the increase. They are, however, practical considerations for anyone deciding where to eat.

All-You-Can-Eat Comes in Many Forms

A traditional buffet is only one way to enjoy unlimited dining.

Depending on the restaurant, your meal might include:

  • Sushi prepared to order.
  • Meats brought to the table at a Brazilian steakhouse.
  • Ingredients cooked in a shared hot pot.
  • Korean barbecue cooked at your table.
  • Pizza, salad, and other buffet selections.
  • Family-style dishes served with unlimited refills.

The details matter. “Family-style” describes how food is served; it does not automatically mean additional helpings are included.

A restaurant may also offer unlimited dining only during lunch, on selected days, or through a particular menu. Before visiting, find out exactly what the offering includes.

Check Lunch Prices for Another Opportunity to Save

If your schedule is flexible, compare lunch and dinner prices.

An earlier visit may cost less, although the selection might differ. A favorite seafood item, premium meat, or specialty dish could be reserved for dinner or a special menu day.

Ask about the current lunch hours, the price, and what’s included. A lower-priced meal that features the dishes you enjoy could be a better fit for your budget.

Make Your Next Visit Worthwhile

A few quick checks can help turn a restaurant search into an enjoyable outing:

  • Confirm the offering. Is all-you-can-eat dining available on your planned day and at your arrival time?
  • Check the total price. Ask about drinks, children’s prices, special menu days, and additional charges.
  • Know what’s included. Make sure the dishes you’re looking forward to are part of the meal.
  • Understand the conditions. Check time limits, ordering rules, and any charges for excessive uneaten food.
  • Plan for your group. Ask about reservations, accessibility, and arrangements for birthdays or other celebrations when relevant.

Choose food you’ll enjoy, take comfortable portions, and return for more if you’re still hungry. A good-value meal should leave you satisfied with both the food and the experience.

Data note: The Yelp figure comes from reporting on its 2026 food and drink trends forecast and compares September 2024–August 2025 with the preceding 12 months. The Google Trends comparison was calculated by All You Can Eat Dining from a U.S. export downloaded October 29, 2026, labeled “All-you-can-eat restaurant.” It compares average monthly index scores for January–September 2026 and January–September 2025. These figures measure search activity, not restaurant visits, sales, or diners’ motivations.
